The use of remote sensing in the NIR to investigate the growth of grass in Ireland has been reported by the Irish Times (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2012/1112/1224326471262.html). The beef and dairy industries are of great importance to Ireland, but grass has not been studied to nearly the same level as other crops. Scientists at Teagasc, the Irish national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industries, believe that applications will include advising farmers when to put their cattle out after winter, when to move cattle to different fields to maximise the grass available and to monitor disease in other crops.
