FT-NIR for real-time control of chemical processes

ABB has introduced the new TALYS ASP500 Series. This fibre-optics-based industrial FT-NIR analyser is used for reactor profiling, real-time determination of process end-point, cycle-time reduction, process characterisation and early troubleshooting. The TALYS analyser is flexible and supports various configurable sample accessories such as; transmission, transflectance and diffuse reflectance probes as well as flow-through cells to meet the wide measurement needs of liquid and powder sample applications.

The TALYS ASP500 Series design has a minimal footprint and can be shelf-mounted or wall-mounted in a safe area without requiring an additional enclosure. It also features an embedded processor, so no external computer is needed. Once configured for an intended measurement, the analyser continuously monitors and provides analysis results as well as instrument health monitoring utility status over a standard Ethernet communication link. Concentrations and status information are also displayed on the touch screen, which supports multiple languages. The analyser may be easily updated to measure new or different chemical streams. A USB key interface is used to update analysis configuration as well as to extract spectral data or measurement reports from the analyser.

The analyser lifetime is extended well beyond industry standard and is designed for field serviceability of all components eliminating the need for a spare analyser for service. It is being exhibited at Pittcon 2013, 17–21 March, in booth #3119.
