relative sensitivity of diffuse reflectance and transmission for additives in extruded polyolefins

Can anyone comment on the relative sensitivity of measuring additive concentration in commodity polyolefins by diffuse reflectance of the resin beads versus transmission during extrusion? How do people assess the value and feasibility of transmission measurements during extrusion since the cost and difficulty of testing it is so high? Thanks, David
